In 1970 Collier, an imprint of Macmillan, published the Narnia books in
paperback, both individually and in a boxed set, with cover art by Roger
Hane. The interior illustrations by Pauline Baynes were dramatically and
drastically altered. As one reader described it, the illustations looked
like they had been through a poor quality photo copy machine, and then
about one-third to one-half of the illustration cut away, leaving the
rest to be used. Only one illustration was used per chapter for each
book, as a header.
In 1973 Collier issued the same books with redone covers by Roger Hane.
