2000 saw HarperTrophy, an American imprint of HarperCollins, publish editions in full color, looking nearly like exact copies of the 2001 Collins editions.
2001 saw the books reissued by Collins with the same ISBN numbers, but with cover art taken from from the earlier Puffin paperback editions.
(copies of The Last Battle were used to make comparisons):
Pictures: The 1998 edition has the largest, and lightest colored illustration of the three. The second has the smallest and darkest illustrations of the three. The third edition takes a middle road between the first and second editions regarding color intensity and image size.
Headers and footers: The 1998 edition has only centered page numbers at the foot of each page. The second edition has book title on the left hand pages and the chapter title on the right hand pages as headers, and pages numbers as the footers. The third edition is like the second, but the pages numbers are moved up as parts of the headers.
Thickness: While all three editions have high quality glossy paper, the paper in the last two editions is thicker than the first. This makes the last two editions about 1/3 thicker, and thus more sturdy, than the first.
Height: The first two are the same height, while the third is about 3/16” shorter.
